Our Story
High-Quality Hardwoods, Since 1974
In 1974, a small assignment took woodworker Willie Drake to West Virginia in search of rare American Chestnut. Among the area’s historic and abandoned Appalachian barns, he found an abundance of beautiful wood, waiting to be reclaimed and reused.
A business was born.
Reclaimed Wood vs. Newly Harvested: What to Know
Mountain Lumber’s Commitment to Sustainability
Our Story
Mountain Lumber Company’s first few decades focused on the standards Willie Drake set. Our team searched the globe for rare hardwoods hiding in forgotten structures. Today, we combine that history and expertise with a broad catalog of hardwood designs, shaped around both reclaimed and new, sustainably harvested hardwoods.
Every piece of reclaimed wood we mill is hand-selected for its richness in history, character and beauty. Our expert craftsmen and women de-nail, saw and kiln-dry every board.
Every order of newly harvested hardwood is sourced with a strict eye on quality and the greatest respect for the planet.
In Mountain Lumber’s manufacturing process, nothing goes to waste. Offcuts and scrap wood are integrated into our Greenwell® Certification program, reshaped and reused in unique designs that reflect the same quality and durability standards. Even our dust is burned to create energy that fires kilns and heats facilities.

Our 50-year history is full of adventures and ideas.
One thing has remained: an unyielding dedication to quality and customer service.
